High Current Transformers are designed to supply high currents for temperature rise, short-time current, and other high-current tests on electrical equipment. They simulate actual operating or fault conditions by delivering controlled high currents to the test object.
These transformers are typically of open-type construction, using the test object as the secondary conductor or incorporating a one- or two-turn secondary winding. The high test current generates the required temperature rise in the conductor, while the conductor temperature is measured using thermocouples or other temperature sensors directly attached to the test specimen. This design enables accurate evaluation of the thermal performance of conductors, busbars, switchgear, current transformers, and other high-current electrical equipment under laboratory test conditions.
