Motor Starting Reactors reduce the applied voltage during the starting of large three-phase motors, limiting inrush current and minimizing voltage dips on the power system.
Large motors typically draw 6–8 times their rated current during direct-on-line starting. By reducing the starting voltage to approximately 70%, the reactor limits the starting current while the remaining voltage is dropped across the reactor. After 15–20 seconds, the reactor is automatically bypassed by the system contactors, allowing the motor to operate at full voltage.
