Air Core Smoothing Reactors

Overview

Smoothing Reactors are connected in series with DC systems to reduce current ripple, harmonic distortion, transient overcurrents, and rapid current fluctuations, ensuring stable and reliable DC operation.

They smooth the DC current waveform, improve power quality, reduce system losses, and enhance the performance of power electronic equipment. Smoothing Reactors are widely used in HVDC transmission systems, railway traction, variable speed drives, UPS systems, rectifiers, and other industrial DC applications.

In converter-based systems, Smoothing Reactors help maintain stable inverter operation by limiting the rate of rise of fault currents and reducing the risk of commutation failures caused by AC voltage disturbances.

They also reduce harmonic currents and voltages in DC circuits while limiting peak current during DC line faults, improving both equipment protection and overall system reliability.

  • High mechanical strength to withstand severe short-circuit forces
  • Optimized thermal design with low temperature rise for extended service life
  • UV-resistant surface protection suitable for Pollution Class IV environments
  • Maintenance-free design for reliable long-term operation
