Air Core Shunt Reactors

Overview

Hilkar Shunt Reactors are designed to compensate excess capacitive reactive power in medium and high voltage systems, keeping voltage rise under control during light-load conditions and improving voltage stability and system efficiency.

Shunt Reactors provide inductive compensation for the capacitive reactive power generated by long transmission lines, underground cables, and lightly loaded networks. By reducing reactive power and controlling overvoltages, they increase the system's active power transfer capability and improve overall network performance.

Shunt Reactors can be connected to the tertiary winding of a power transformer or directly to the transmission line. For high-voltage and high-power applications, Hilkar recommends using RC snubber filters to suppress switching transients and protect switching equipment from excessive overvoltages.

  • Air core, dry-type construction
  • Optimized thermal design with low temperature rise for extended service life
  • UV-resistant surface protection suitable for Pollution Class IV environments
  • Maintenance-free design
  • Epoxy-impregnated, fiberglass-encapsulated winding for high mechanical strength and environmental protection
  • Low power losses
  • Low acoustic noise during operation

Shunt Reactors are primarily used for reactive power compensation in long transmission lines, underground cable networks, and lightly loaded power systems, including:

  • Wind Farms
  • Railway and metro power systems
  • Urban distribution networks
  • Industrial facilities
  • University campuses
  • Electrical substations
