Air Core Motor Starting Reactors

Overview

Hilkar Motor Starting Reactors are designed to reduce the starting voltage and limit the inrush current of large three-phase induction and synchronous motors. During direct starting, large motors can draw 6 to 8 times their rated current, causing voltage dips and mechanical stress on both the motor and the electrical network. Motor Starting Reactors reduce the applied motor voltage during startup, limiting the starting current while providing sufficient starting torque.

A typical starting configuration applies approximately 70% of the rated voltage to the motor, with the remaining voltage dropped across the reactor. Once the motor reaches the required speed, the reactor is automatically bypassed by the control system, allowing the motor to operate at full line voltage.

  • High mechanical strength to withstand short-circuit forces
  • Optimized thermal design with low temperature rise for extended service life
  • UV-resistant surface protection suitable for Pollution Class IV environments
  • Maintenance-free design for reliable long-term operation
